Our History
Originally formed in 1985 as Petroleum Resources of Texas, Inc., ("PRTI") the company provided contract services for operators in the southwestern United States, operating Gulf Coast oil field properties on a contract basis. Soon thereafter, PRTI began acquiring additional oil and gas interests for its own account. In 1991, the Company was reorganized, incorporated in Delaware and renamed Gaither Petroleum Corporation, locating its headquarters in the “Energy Corridor” of Houston, Texas.
Focusing on the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast, GPC has developed a premier regionally targeted asset portfolio. GPC specializes in the management and rejuvenation of existing fields and joint venture exploration for the development of new fields. It is characterized as a Company seasoned with experienced, hardworking professionals. Geologists, geophysicists, engineers, landmen and financial analysts work side by side to create maximum synergy thus allowing GPC to explore, develop and operate marginal fields at costs significantly lower than most of its competitors. This has resulted in substantial historic growth, and today GPC owns and operates over 400 wells in Texas and Louisiana.
In 1987 the Company branched into the service sector with the formation of its affiliate Innovative Energy Services which owns and operates a fleet of workover rigs and swabbing units servicing the Gulf Coast region.
Continuing with its growth plans, in 2002, GPC expanded its operations into the international arena, forming its affiliate Atlas Petroleum Exploration Worldwide ("APEX") to pursue such opportunities. APEX operates an exploration permit offshore North Africa and is in the process of developing three discoveries in the shallow waters of the Mediterranean.
